Peter Beerli

I am working on methods in the field of population genetics and phylogenetics. Current interests include estimation of population parameters such as population sizes, migration rates and divergence times, model testing and model selection. I am fond of using probabilistic methods, such as maximum likelihood and Bayesian methods. Often there are no analytical solutions for such problems and we need to resort to Markov chain Monte Carlo methods to achieve approximate estimators. Home Page | Contact Details |
Gavin Naylor

Gavin Naylor is interested in the evolution of proteins, and how the structure of proteins affects their function. Phylogenies of proteins help to elucidate their structure and function, and this knowledge can in turn be used to refine methods of phylogenetic analysis. He also works on the morphological and molecular evolution of sharks using sequence data from nuclear and mitochondrial genes, as well as morphometric data from teeth (which allow the evolution of sharks to be traced through fossil remains). Steven Thompson

Steve Thompson is a teacher, instructor, and consultant in bioinformatics. He is interested in protein structure and function relations, evolution on the molecular level, and gene regulation of basic cellular processes. He maintains the bioinformatic software and databases located on SCS’s bioinformatics server and provides computational genomics support for the FSU scientific community. Jim Wilgenbusch

Jim is an SCS research scientist, interested in a mix of theoretical and empirical problems, including work on assessment of MCMC convergence as well as analysis of lizard phylogeny. Neelima Jammigumpula

Neelima is intersted in developing Bioinformatics tools and applications, biological databases that help researchers to better their research. She got her Masters in Bioinformatics from Georgia Institute of Technology. She started working on MorphBank project in March 2004 by maintaining and developing software for the project. Katja Seltmann

Katja received her Masters in Entomology from the University of Kentucky studying Hymenoptera systematics, with a focus in informatics. Her primary interests are in using art and new media in Entomology for education and biodiversity studies, facilitation of collaboration in large projects and key for identification. Mattias Forshage

Mattias Forshage is working toward his Ph.D. in Uppsala, Sweden, and travels extensively to museums and field sites as part of his studies. His dissertation research is centered on the taxonomy and phylogeny of Eucoilinae, a poorly known group of parasitic wasps (Hymenoptera: Figitidae). Other research interests of his includes dung beetle phylogeny, taxonomy, ecology and faunistics, and other areas of entomological systematics and conservation. Home Page | Contact Details |
